How To Skip The Starlink Waitlist?

As a Starlink user, I remember the frustration of waiting months to get my hands on the coveted satellite dish and modem. With the hype around this revolutionary technology, I was eager to experience the fast and reliable internet it promised.

However, I soon learned I was not alone in my struggles. Thousands of others were in the same boat, stuck on the waitlist and with no clear timeline for when they would finally have access to the service.

But I didn’t let this setback get the best of me. I did some research and found that there were ways to skip the Starlink waitlist. I tried them out and got my hands on the satellite dish and modem in a matter of weeks.

In this article, I want to share what I learned and show you how you can skip the waitlist too.

Whether you’re a tech-savvy individual or a beginner, this article will provide all the information you need to start Starlink as soon as possible.

So, are you ready to say goodbye to slow and unreliable internet? Let’s get started!

Best Effort Service

One solution to the problem of limited access to Starlink is to sign up for their Best Effort service. But what exactly is Best Effort, and how does it differ from Starlink RV?

What Is Best Effort Service?

Best Effort is a program offered by Starlink for those who are still waiting for their turn on the central Starlink waitlist. It allows you to receive Starlink services, albeit at a lower priority than those on the central waitlist. This means that during busy periods or in areas with high demand, your connection may be slower or less reliable than someone on the main waitlist.

However, Best Effort still provides a solid connection and access to the internet, making it an excellent alternative for those tired of waiting on the long Starlink waitlist.

One advantage of Best Effort over Starlink RV is its lower cost, making it more affordable for those looking to get online with Starlink. Best Effort also has a quicker activation time, requiring no additional equipment or setup compared to Starlink RV.

Availability of Best Effort

It’s important to note that Best Effort is unavailable in many areas, and availability can vary based on factors such as demand and geographic location. However, it is worth checking to see if it’s available in your area and whether it fits your needs well. Overall, Best Effort is an excellent option for those looking to skip the long Starlink waitlist and get online with their reliable and affordable internet service.

The Two Methods to Skip the Waitlist

As you’re looking for ways to bypass the Starlink waitlist, you might have encountered Starlink RV as an option. Starlink RV refers to the used Starlink equipment available for resale by people who have already received their Starlink system. This method of obtaining a Starlink system is popular among people who want to skip the waitlist and start enjoying high-speed internet as soon as possible.

Regarding Starlink RV, there are a few advantages and disadvantages to consider. On the one hand, obtaining a used Starlink system through RV can be faster and more convenient than waiting for a new system to become available. On the other hand, buying a used Starlink system from a private seller can be risky, as there is no guarantee that the equipment will work correctly or that the seller is trustworthy.

The availability of Starlink RV varies depending on your location and the time of year. In some areas, many Starlink systems may be available, while in others, it may be difficult to find any used systems for sale. To increase your chances of finding Starlink RV, keep an eye on online marketplaces and classifieds websites and reach out to people in your community who might be selling their Starlink systems.

Another option to skip the Starlink waitlist is to transfer a used Starlink dish. This process involves obtaining a used Starlink system from someone who has already received their Starlink equipment and transferring it to your name. The transfer process can be complex, as it involves both technical and legal aspects, but it can also be a great way to access Starlink’s internet as soon as possible.

The benefits of transferring a used Starlink dish are numerous. For one, you’ll have the opportunity to get access to high-speed internet much faster than if you were to wait for a new system to become available. You can also negotiate a better price for the used Starlink system, as the seller may be eager to get rid of their equipment.

To find a used Starlink system for transfer, consider contacting Starlink user groups on social media or online forums. These communities can be a great source of information and support as you navigate the transfer process.

If you’re looking for a way to bypass the waitlist for Starlink, there is one more method you can try. While it used to be a surefire way to get your hands on Starlink, recent policy changes have made it less reliable. That said, if you’ve exhausted the other options, it may be worth a shot.

Before diving into this method, we should note that it’s not our top recommendation. Buying a used Starlink dish or getting Starlink RV is much easier and more straightforward if you’re willing to shell out some extra cash. However, this alternative method might be worthwhile if you’re feeling adventurous and want to try something different.

Step 1

Let’s start with step one of the process to get Starlink internet. If you haven’t already done so, you first need to put down a pre-order deposit of $99 for Starlink service at your current service location. This deposit is refundable, so don’t worry about losing your money. If you pre-order Starlink, you can add yourself to the waitlist and wait for the service to become available at your real address. Once available, you can transfer your service location to your real address.

Use a separate email address for your pre-order Starlink account to keep things organised. This email account will only inform you when the service becomes available at your real address. Check this account regularly or set up notifications so you don’t miss the Starlink email!

When your confirmed address becomes eligible for complete orders in the future, you can easily update your service address on the account you will be creating in the upcoming steps of this guide.

Step 2

starlink availability map

The next step is to find an area where you can order Starlink service immediately. This can be any location in the country, and you don’t need to travel there physically. The good news is that Starlink has recently introduced a map feature on their website that makes it easy to find such areas. Simply browse the map and look for areas where service is available for immediate purchase. Once you find a suitable location, proceed to the next step.

To locate a town where you can currently order Starlink service, visit the Starlink website and utilize their availability map. This nifty tool makes it easy to identify areas where Starlink currently offers its services.

Step 3

Now that we’ve found a town where Starlink service is available, it’s time to locate an address within that service cell. This is where your trusty mapping software comes into play. In my case, I decided to go with Google Maps and searched for Hays, Kansas – the town I found on the Starlink availability map. Once the town was pulled up on my screen, I zoomed in a bit and randomly selected a house to get the address. It’s important to note that your address doesn’t need to be specific – just any address within the service cell will do.

Step 4

To get started, head to the official Starlink website and input the service address you found. Once you click on “Order Now,” you’ll be directed to a page where you can purchase the complete kit or pay a deposit. If you can purchase the complete kit, you can get Starlink immediately.

You’ll find a cost breakdown on the page, followed by a section where you’ll need to input your shipping and billing information. It’s essential to ship your Starlink kit to your actual address and provide the correct billing details based on your payment method.

Furthermore, ensure you use a different email to create a separate account from the one you used to pre-order Starlink. If you used a secondary email for pre-ordering, use your primary email address for this order.

Step 5

After placing your order, the subsequent step involves enabling Portability on your account, allowing you to use Starlink outside your registered service address. To do this, log in to your account on and click on Manage Service Options. Then, click on Add Portability, which costs an extra $25 per month.

While you wait for your hardware kit to be delivered, you can start setting up Portability to use the service as soon as you receive it. After you receive your hardware kit, it’s time to get it up and running. Follow the instructions to set it up and find a suitable location for mounting the Starlink dish.

Once your kit is set up, check your internet connection to ensure everything works. When you take the Starlink dish outside its service address, it will switch to roaming mode.

Remember that while in Portability mode, your data may be deprioritized in favour of non-roaming Starlink users. Nevertheless, according to multiple accounts on the Starlink subreddit, roaming speeds, reliability, and latency all seem unaffected. In highly congested and active cells, you may experience some slowdowns, but overall, the service is quite reliable.

Step 6

This process is where things can get a bit tricky. While Starlink will automatically update your service address if they detect that you’ve been using Portability mode in the same location for an extended period of time, it doesn’t always work perfectly. The period is typically around two billing cycles, which equates to about two months.

If Starlink successfully updates your service address to match the location where you’ve been using the service, you’ll be converted to a regular Residential account. At this point, you can turn off Portability mode and start paying the normal service price.

Regrettably, there’s a chance that your service address won’t be updated automatically, resulting in being stuck in Portability mode with deprioritized service. If this happens, the best option is to wait for your pre-order to become available and then update your service address manually from your Portability-enabled account.

In conclusion, if you’re looking to skip the Starlink waitlist and get your hands on this cutting-edge satellite internet service, you have several options to consider. Whether you opt for the Best Effort Service, the Starlink RV program, or the transfer of a used Starlink dish, each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. And, if all else fails, there is always an alternative method that you could try.

To recap, the Best Effort Service offers a great solution for those looking for a quick and easy way to get started with Starlink. With its fast speeds and reliable connections, it’s a great choice for anyone who wants to experience the benefits of this exciting new technology. Meanwhile, the Starlink RV program offers a unique opportunity to test out the system, with the added benefit of being able to return the equipment if you’re not satisfied. And, if you’re looking to save some money, transferring a used Starlink dish is a great way to get started with this service without paying full price.

Ultimately, the best method for skipping the Starlink waitlist depends on your needs and preferences. So, take some time to think about what you’re looking for and choose the right method. And, with any luck, you’ll be enjoying the many benefits of this cutting-edge satellite internet service in no time.
